Now that Autumn has well and truly arrived, it is now time to put the garden to bed for winter.

Clear any leaves from the borders as this helps prevent any potential harmful bugs from breeding over winter.

Cut back or prune any shrubs that require it and remove any dead or diseased wood.

It is a good idea to give the flower beds a good top dressing of compost, which will enrich them with the nutrients they need to flourish next year and produce strong growth during the summer.

Now is also the time to plant spring bulbs. You can gain a succession of colour by planting for example a mixture of the following bulbs: snowdrops, crocuses, daffodils, tulips, hyacinths, which will last through the spring.

You can plant bulbs in borders or containers, planting is simple all that is required is digging a hole adding some extra compost and placing the bulb in the hole.

Most bulbs need good drainage and require a sunny position. But with just a little effort now will give you a stunning display to cherish in the new year.
